Put behaviour on the map and the conversation starts

Teams rarely get stuck on the work itself. The friction is about pace, expectations, assumptions and communication. Below, you can see where Guides use the World of Difference and what it delivers.

REAL CONVERSATIONS

Real conversations between real people, about behaviour everyone recognises

MapsTell is used wherever behaviour needs to become visible and open to discussion: in coaching, team development, leadership programmes, development reviews, customer contact, change programmes, culture and education. The process is always the same: first, everyone literally takes their place on the map. Then comes the conversation. Not about each other, but with each other—in words everyone understands straight away.

FOR PEOPLE AND TEAMS

Where Guides use the map

Maybe you work with DISC or Insights. These tools provides insight, but you want more impact, more movement, a richer experience and better results.

Personal development
You put yourself on the map and find words for your behavioural preferences, the patterns in how you work with others and the journey you want to take.
Team          development
Where do we stand as a team, and how do we relate to one another? Once that becomes visible, the conversation becomes constructive rather than uncomfortable.
Leadership development
What works for one person may create resistance in another. Leaders recognise their own preferred behaviour and literally step into the world of the people they lead.
The HR cycle
A shared language for behaviour changes the tone of a development review: from judgement to alignment. It also helps during onboarding.
Sales and service
Anyone who speaks with customers adapts all day long. The map gives words to the question: Which behaviour am I seeing, and what does that ask of me?
Projects and change
Temporary teams work under pressure and are often made up of people who did not choose one another. That is exactly where differences in behaviour surface fastest.
IN PRACTICE

“It works for every audience, whether you are working with shop-floor staff or university educated leaders.”

- Chantal van Maurik, L&D manager at Hans Anders (nexeye),
an optical retail chain in the Netherlands and Belgium

IS THIS RIGHT FOR US?

When MapsTell works and when it doesn’t

We would rather be honest up front than disappoint you afterwards. These are the conditions in which the Map works best.

When it doesn't

As a selection tool in recruitment
It works well as the basis for a meaningful conversation with a candidate about behaviour, but not as a selection tool.
When there is no room to practise
Without application, it remains theoretical knowledge rather than leading to behavioural change.
When feedback is unwelcome
For example, in a strongly top-down culture.
When a quick fix is expected
A one-off session is not enough for experiential learning.
For facilitators who rely on theory and slides
The method comes to life on the floor, not on a screen.

When it works

Teams that learn by doing
Do, reflect, adjust and try again.
Leaders who want practical development
Less talking, more practice in day-to-day work.
L&D and HR building a learning journey
With rhythm and ownership, or as a single session that supports the purpose of the day.
Teams in transition
Growth, restructuring, a merger or rapid scaling.
Organisations that take psychological safety seriously
Not perfect, but willing to build it.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

Four organisations, four very different questions

From a hotel group looking for one shared language for thousands of employees to a football club and a university in the United States. The same map, a different question every time.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about The World of Difference

Below you will find the questions we hear most often, answered clearly and to the point.

What group sizes does MapsTell work for?

From individual coaching to large groups. The Floormap comes into its own with teams of roughly four to twenty people. The PersonalMap works just as well in a one to one conversation.

How much time does a MapsTell session take?

The Guide decides that with the client. It ranges from a one hour coaching conversation to several half days, or recurring moments spread across a longer programme.

Does MapsTell work with conflict?

Yes. Because behaviour is placed on the map and not on the person, it can be discussed without becoming personal. That takes the tension out of the conversation without avoiding the subject.

Does MapsTell work between departments?

Yes. The World of Difference makes both the differences and dynamics between individual participants within a team and the differences and dynamics between teams visible.

Can MapsTell be used in education?

Yes, and more than that: our dream is to put every young person on the map. In vocational and higher education as well as with young people in secondary education. From the age of twelve you work with A World to Discover, a map with its own imagery and language for that group.

Do we have to overhaul our existing programme for this?

No. Guides use the map where it fits: on a single team day, in a coaching conversation or at several moments in a longer programme.
